LONG RANGE WEATHER FORECAST:-----

Cool Summer forecast / long range weather forecast

Long range forecast / discussion...August 05 to 10

-Next week through Thursday we have a low grade summer monsoon pattern in place, with continued higher moisture and some clouds across the area. This is expected as high pressure is centered mainly to the north/ east but expanded, placing the area in a southeasterly flow aloft (instead of the usually dry southwest wind direction overhead). We expect isolated showers and thunderstorms across the resort areas each afternoon/ evening, with the usual thunderstorm associated conditions possible at times (gusty winds, heavy showers, lightning). Late next week and weekend we dry out again as low pressure troughiness once again establishes itself across the Northwest US, for sunny and dry weather with some west breezes. Weather temperatures forecast: daytime temperatures in the high mountain elevations that include western Big Bear Lake will be normally cool in the middle 70's.

ALWAYS CHECK THE ROAD CONDITIONS LINK FROM Cal-Trans on our Home Page for road conditions before driving to Big Bear, updated by the minute. FOR DRIVING TIPS see link at the bottom of this page. Don't forget to ask about the FREE GAS offer to fill your tank this vacation season...you can still stay close to home, but visit a different world in Big Bear Lake.

1) Hwy SR18 from the San Bernardino area. Begin at the Waterman exit from the SR30, which is now part of the 210 freeway(remember the 210 Freeway is now open, and replaces the SR30 at the 215 Freeway junction in San Bernardino, but the signs still say HWY 30 until Cal Trans can get them changed). Go north towards Lake Arrowhead, then continue on by following the signs to Big Bear Lake. When you get to the Dam, turn right for 2 1/2 miles to Golden Bear Cottages. The office is on the right. NOTE: this road is considered too narrow and curvy for some inexperienced mountain drivers. We might suggest it as a last choice.

2)Hwy SR38 from the Redlands area. Begin at the Hwy 38 exit from the 10 freeway in Redlands. Go north on Orange Street about 1/2 mile to Lugonia. Turn right on Lugonia (which is SR38) and follow it through Mentone and up the mountain towards Big Bear. When you get to Big Bear, take a left on the main road and follow it along the lake. After about 10 miles you will see the Preforming Arts/Civic Center, our office is just 1/2 mile past it on the left. NOTE: this road is a bit longer, but except for about 7 miles, it is far less curvy. A favorite of many drivers because it is a beautiful senic drive.

3) Hwy SR18 from the High Desert. Beginning at Lucerne Valley, take Hwy 18 towards Big Bear. When you get to the top of the mountain, go right along the Lake towards Big Bear. When you get to Stanfield Cut-off, go over Big Bear Lake and turn right (West) towards the Dam. We are about 6 miles just past the Preforming Arts/Civic Center. The office is on the left side of the road. NOTE: This is the best road for guests traveling from Las Vegas (less than 3 hours for the total drive). This road only has about 6 miles of curvy road. The rest is an easy drive.

4) Hwy SR330 from the San Bernardino area. Go north on the 330 from the 210 Freeway (remember the 210 Freeway is now open, and replaces the SR30 at the 215 Freeway junction in San Bernardino, but the signs still say HWY 30 until Cal Trans can get them changed). Continue on to Running Springs. When you get to Running Springs, continue straight towards Big Bear Lake (the road name changes to the SR18, but it is the same road). Follow SR18 for about 14 miles towards Big Bear Lake until you get to the Dam. When you get to the Dam, turn right for 2 1/2 miles to Golden Bear Cottages. The office is on the right.NOTE: This is the most direct route from the Inland Empire, Orange Co., LA and San Diego. It is a very good road, but a bit curvy for some passengers prone to motion sickness.

Please Drive SAFELY. For the latest roadinformation, click on the ROAD CONDITIONS link at the top of our home page. Cal Trans updates it every few minutes. For further information you may call our office Monday - Saturday betweem 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday until 5 p.m. We will try to answer any other questions you have. Please carry chains in your vehicle in Fall, Winter and Spring. God bless you and have a safe trip to Golden Bear Cottages, Big Bear's closest AAA approved lodging to Snow Valley Ski Resort
